Air control valves for extreme environments

Parker Hannifin's pneumatic division has developed a heavy-duty industrial in-line valve series specifically designed for use in extreme operating conditions. The new Viking Xtreme IP65-rated valve incorporates innovative spool technology for use in applications where pneumatic systems have to operate at extreme temperatures. Viking Xtreme has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C, with a maximum pressure of 16 bar.

Traditional solenoid valves typically use either an O-ring or lip seals between the valve spool and body, Parker says. The Viking Xtreme's aluminum spool, however, with its specially engineered over-moulded rubber, can eliminates the problems of seals deforming or extruding under conditions of high pressure or flow.

The precision ground-moulded spool construction lessens unit complexity, increases flow rates, ensures stable seal performance in high flow/pressure drop situations and offers robust performance in a wide range of operating temperatures.

The new Viking Xtreme is available in three versions - solenoid operated, remote air pilot, and manually actuated with a choice of 1/8 in, ¼ in, 3/8 in, and ½ in port sizes.

Viking Xtreme has an anodized aluminium body, and a bore polished to high surface finish for maximum flow capacity and extended life. It also incorporates thermo set plastic coils, stainless steel fasteners and anodized aluminium end caps with a porous sintered bronze vent plug built-in to prevent contamination ingression. It is suitable for a variety of mobile applications such as truck/trailer, bus/coach and rail, as well as non-mobile uses including mining, wood cutting, pulp/paper processing and sawmill operations.
