Blackmer is expanding with the construction of a new facility at its US headquarters.

The rotating pumps and reciprocating compressor technologies specialist, part of the PSG group, is building a 56,000 ft2 manufacturing, office, research and development and training unit creating more than 50 jobs its base in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The project will use a 48,000 ft2 foundry previously decommissioned in March 2020 and is set to be completed in June 2023.

General manager Bob Lauson said: “The Blackmer and PSG management teams have been considering new uses for our foundry since it was decommissioned in 2020, and we are excited to unveil our plans to repurpose the space into expanded capabilities.

“The new structure will deliver many benefits for Blackmer, our customers and the community.”

Pre-construction and preparation began last March with the plant expansion phase starting in January once demolition of the foundry is complete.

Features will include energy-efficient lighting, heating, air-conditioning and manufacturing systems.
