Under the contract, Amec Foster Wheeler will provide the power plant’s major equipment, including a steam turbine generator, a waste heat recovery steam generator, a condenser, a feedwater heater, a deaerator, pumps and a cooling tower.
The power island will use an existing heat source to create power. The heat, provided to Cleco by a third-party supplier, is generated from the production of carbon black, used in items such as tyres and industrial rubber products. This waste heat will be used to produce steam which will in turn create electricity that can be sold and sent to the grid. The plant is expected to start commercially operating in 2018.
