Samotics’ AI-based smart monitoring system, the SAM4, has been selected for a 12-month trial by United Utilities, a large UK water and wastewater company, to improve the reliability and efficiency of its operations.

The trial is part of the United Utilities’ CEO Challenge initiative, in which teams of graduates work together to find new solutions to business issues. The SAM4 system will be installed on 25 pumps at eight locations, testing a variety of pump types and processes over 12 months before being evaluated.

Samotics’ SAM4 system analyses current and voltage data from electric motors using a technique called electrical signature analysis (ESA).  Sensors installed in the motor control cabinet, enable the reliable capture of detailed health data.  SAM4 provides detection of electrical and mechanical faults and energy and performance metrics, including a real-time pump performance curve. These features will enable United Utilities to quickly identify problems with equipment.
