Nigel Hunton, who has been chief executive at Edwards for the past four years, will take on the role of chairman with immediate effect.
Taylor (50) was most recently the group CEO of JC Bamford Excavators.
Edwards has also appointed David Smith as its new chief financial officer.
Taylor and Smith previously worked together in senior management positions at Jaguar Land Rover and Ford Europe.
