  • Watson Marlow pumps suit high-tech process plant
Tasked with replacing ageing pumps at a UK Advanced Water Treatment Works (AWTW), engineering, consulting and construction company Black & Veatch opted to install a number of peristaltic models from Watson-Marlow. Offering continuous, high pressure and quick release functionality, the new pumps have slotted comfortably into their high-tech surroundings, which is one of Thames Water's flagship process plants.
  • Ultrasonics control in sewage stations
The essential need of the wastewater industry to accurately control sewage-pumping stations at a minimum cost has driven pump control technology to new heights of sophistication. Non-contacting ultrasonic measurement is the key to success, as Pulsar Process Measurement's Keith Flint explains.
  • Peristaltic answer to caustic problems
Positive displacement pumps are still the preferred choice for metering highly corrosive and caustic chemicals. However, when it comes to reducing life-cycle costs, Chuck Treutel, P. E, of the Watson-Marlow Pumps Group, argues that peristaltic pump technology has the advantage over diaphragm and progressive cavity types.
  • Tiny pumps drive portable medical devices
The performance and cost effectiveness of many portable medical devices can be enhanced by tailoring miniature diaphragm pumps and solenoid valves to meet system requirements. Dan Schimelman of Hargraves Technology examines the issues together with recent advances in fluidic components.
  • Control of chemical dosing in wastewater treatment
Various wastewater treatment processes require the controlled dosing of chemicals into the process stream either to assist the treatment or to remove undesirable elements. In order for the dosing pumps to work efficiently, works operators need to be constantly aware of what is happening in the treatment process so that dosing levels and speeds can be adjusted accordingly. UK-based Partech Instruments has developed feed forward control systems employing on-line analysers in the inlet stream to send real-time data to a dosing control system for automatic adjustment of the dosing pump. Bryan Orchard reports.

VACUUBRAND introduces ME1 and ME1C diaphragm pumps

16 August 2010

The pumps offer a compact, high performance and easy-to-use solution for single and multiple filtrations in vacuum filtration.

The ME 1 and ME 1C diaphragm pumps from VACUUBRAND are based on the MD 1 and MD 1C series. The functional, space saving design, with a visible top mounted power switch, ensures convenient and quick operation for day to day laboratory work. Robust PTFE diaphragms and valves provide optimal chemical resistance. An optional manual control valve with dial gauge enables variable fine adjustment of the pumping speed.

Applications for the diaphragm pumps include sample preparation in chemistry, microbiology, wastewater control and other analytical processes.
