The development of intensive shrimp farming business in the last decades has created a need to design special features for seawater pumping. High water demand, extreme corrosion due to salt water, and unstable terrain conditions to place civil works are just some of the design challenges for ETEC engineers.

Until now, the choice between electric-driven or diesel-driven pumps for dewatering applications has not been an even contest. However, rising fuel costs have forced many engineers to re-consider their choice. Here, Roland Berns of BBA Pumps BV argues that in spite of the initial higher purchase price, diesel-driven pumps will pay their costs back many times over in fuel savings.

New solids handling pumps from Godwin

24 February 2009

Godwin Pumps has launched two new pumps in its Dri-Prime solids handling range, the Godwin Dri-Prime CD140M and CD180M.

The 4-in solids-handling CD140M and 8-in by 6-in CD180M portable diesel pumps offer both elevated heads and solids handling capabilities without sacrificing flow rate, Godwin says. The CD140M pump has total dynamic heads to 280 ft, solids handling to three in diameter and flows to 1,100 GPM. The CD180M pump has total dynamic heads to 280 feet, solids handling to 3 in in diameter and flows to 2,000 GPM.

The CD140M and CD180M solids handling pumps are automatic self-priming Dri-Prime pumps with the ability to prime and re-prime from dry. Featuring an oil bath mechanical seal, Godwin’s pumps run dry with out damage and are suitable for intermittent flow conditions associated with bypass pumping and back-up municipal lift station applications.
