Weir expands pump and valve operations in China

14 January 2011

Weir Minerals is opening an assembly centre for its GEHO pumps in Taicang, China this month.

A GEHO test stand is also being installed to allow performance testing of the assembled pumps. The Taicang facility will also play a key role in executing GEHO’s after market strategy to support the spare parts supply and service of the considerable installed base of GEHO pumps in China.

Weir has also reached an agreement with Loftyman Engineering (HK) Ltd which will see the introduction of eight control and choke valve sales offices throughout China with manufacturing and aftermarket support provided from a dedicated facility at Weir Power & Industrial Division’s existing Suzhou plant. This development follows the introduction of Weir 's Hopkinsons gate valve and Sarasin-RSBD safety valve ranges to Weir’s Suzhou manufacturing facility. Both ranges continue to be manufactured in Europe.

Keith Cochrane said: “These developments will substantially increase the growth prospects for each product range and I expect China to become an increasingly important market for the Weir Group in the coming years.”
