Successful seismic testing for Flowserve valves

The multiple radiation waste remediation projects in, which the valves will be utilised, will ensure that nuclear waste can be safely stored while the isotopes decay and eventually become harmless.

Both the Flowserve Durco extended bonnet cartridge plug valves and Flowserve McCanna top-entry cartridge ball valves passed the stringent seismic testing on the first attempt. Each valve was cycled 16,000 times with pumped simulant flowing at 150 psig. Seismic tests included a 0-100 hertz resonance search, followed by six random-frequency, independent-excitation triaxial seismic tests with up to three-G acceleration.

Jim McGeehin, general manager of Flowserve Flow Control Division said: “Flowserve is proud of the significant role our valves play in protecting the environment during the nuclear waste remediation process. These successful seismic tests build on the NQA-1 qualification Flowserve has maintained since 2001, and demonstrates our commitment to providing solutions to all facets of the nuclear industry.”
