For decades it has been common practice to use circulation pumps in household central heating systems. The advantages are simple: a low noise level, an efficient wet runner motor and a maintenance-free design. Dr. Holger Krasmann, General Manager of the WILO Pump Group in Germany, explains the development of the technology and predicts its dramatic effects on energy consumption.

Oil-free pump for laboratory equipment

16 November 2009

Microanalysis specialist ASPEX has introduced the Hush Pump, a noise reducing, oil-free pump which can be used for scanning electron microscopes (SEMs) and laboratory equipment requiring a clean vacuum system.

The Hush pump from ASPEX is a compact 60 litre/min scroll pump that replaces current wet pumps in the ASPEX personal SEM product line, or other vacuum systems, as an oil-free alternative. According to the ASPEX, the pump reduces energy costs by consuming 50% less energy than other wet pumps and it minimizes ambient lab temperatures by operating 25°F cooler than traditional wet pumps.

The SEM vacuum pump also offers vibration dampening for sensitive equipment applications.
