The industry’s drive to create ever deeper tunnels has placed increasing demands on dewatering and construction equipment. Tsurumi rose to the challenge with its ‘puddle sucker’ LSC series.
  • Pumping tips for colder climates
In the pumping industry, contractors often meet with difficult operating conditions, such as tunnelling deep underground or particularly abrasive pumping media. However, pumping in extremely cold conditions, such as near-zero temperatures, comes with its own particular risks. At the smelter of a platinum group metals producer in South Africa, a new pump was required to transfer highly abrasive materials and keep the slurry in motion during the processing of ore. The company decided to install three peristaltic pumps designed to withstand the demands and capacity of pumping slurries.

Toyo VH slurry pumps for tunnelling works

17 November 2009

Working partially or totally submerged, the VH slurry pumps from Toyo can cope with the heavy and abrasive slurries found in an underground construction site which can easily clog up pumps when the density of the slurry becomes too high.

The compact VH slurry pumps, which can be used as a priming pump or a booster pump, are compact and work in a vertical as well as horizontal position. The heavy duty design of the VH slurry pump is resistant to abrasive metallurgies and the slow running SP electric motor offers wear and tear resistance.

The Toyo patented built in agitator lifts sediments into suspension and creates a homogeneous mixture making continuous pumping of large quantities of solids possible. The VH pumps can handle slurries with up to 60% of solids by weight and particles with up to 80 mm diameter at an operating depth of 30 m. The capacity of the VH slurry pumps from Toyo can reach 210 m³/h and their manometric head 40 m.
