  • Watson Marlow pumps suit high-tech process plant
Tasked with replacing ageing pumps at a UK Advanced Water Treatment Works (AWTW), engineering, consulting and construction company Black & Veatch opted to install a number of peristaltic models from Watson-Marlow. Offering continuous, high pressure and quick release functionality, the new pumps have slotted comfortably into their high-tech surroundings, which is one of Thames Water's flagship process plants.

  • Transferring viscous waste in a brewery
Staff at a UK brewery had to manually empty mash waste from the equipment, costing time and energy. A pump was needed which could handle the highly viscous material at the production facility. Having approached a number of companies, a solution was provided which eliminated the labour intensive process and improved efficiency.
  • Climate change, the water cycle and AC drives
Climate change, increasing demands on water due to global urbanization and the legal obligations under the EUs Water Framework Directive are making the water sector an attractive place for technologies that can help reduce costs and contribute to reducing the effects of climate change. Here Heikki J. Kervinen of ABB discusses the influential role AC drives can play in meeting these challenges.
  • The impact of the US Energy Policy Act on the pumps industry
While the US Energy Policy Act of 2005 focused mainly on alternative energy sources, reducing dependence on foreign sources of oil and increasing domestic energy production, its emphasis on energy efficiency has had a direct effect on pump users and manufacturers. Blackmer's Tom Stone explores how the legislation has influenced day-to-day operations.

Filton Process Control flowmeters measure a variety of duties

20 January 2010

Filton Process Control has a range of variable area flowmeters suitable for most process gases and liquids.

In addition to the 'air and water' ranges, calibrated scales for other duties at specific process conditions can also be produced. The flowmeter models from Filton Process Control have a variety of instrument lengths, process materials and connections with standard features such as frictionless flow elements.

The Series 630 and 1000 flowmeters are designed for purge meter applications where space is at a premium. The flowmeters offer flow measurements to 2-20 cc/min of air or 5-50 cc/minute of water are available as standard. The Series 1200 flowmeter is available in varying lengths providing increased scale discrimination with tube length and higher capacities.
The Series 1750 flowmeter is designed for higher flow range requirements where space is restricted, while the Series 3000 flowmeter is suitable for use as a calibration master. The Series 3000 flowmeter offers air flow ranges as low as 5-50 cc/min or as high as 300-3,000 litres/minute with equivalent water ranges.
Typical applications for the series of flowmeters include analytical instrumentation, gas flow control, small dosing systems, purge metering, leak detection and blending systems, for industries such as brewing, gas analysis, pharmaceutical, aerospace, engine testing, paper production, water treatment and oil & gas.
