  • Peristaltic answer to caustic problems
Positive displacement pumps are still the preferred choice for metering highly corrosive and caustic chemicals. However, when it comes to reducing life-cycle costs, Chuck Treutel, P. E, of the Watson-Marlow Pumps Group, argues that peristaltic pump technology has the advantage over diaphragm and progressive cavity types.
  • Dosing pumps for sealing compounds
The additives present in many modern sealing compounds, can be quite abrasive, and finding a dosing pump that can handle them without problems is more of a challenge than it used to be. However, there are reliable non-damaging solutions using a range of pump types.
  • Suitable gearboxes for peristaltic pumps
While peristaltic pumps can be found in many water industry applications, there are specific gearbox requirements, making traditional transmissions unsuitable. Jon Snaith, of Brevini UK, argues the case for planetary gear boxes, which are low maintenance and have compact gearboxes capable of high reduction ratios.
  • Pumping tips for colder climates
In the pumping industry, contractors often meet with difficult operating conditions, such as tunnelling deep underground or particularly abrasive pumping media. However, pumping in extremely cold conditions, such as near-zero temperatures, comes with its own particular risks. Stefan Hörnschemeyer of Tsurumi Pumps offers practical advice on what to do when the temperature drops.
  • Hydraulic pump solves solids handling problem
Mining salt often leaves caverns that have to be filled to stabilize them once extracted. One method is to fill these caverns with tailings produced during the salt purification process. A hydraulic, quadruple-action piston membrane pump, ideally suited for abrasive liquid media, from ABEL was found to be the best solution to transport the packing from the hopper into the mine via a pipeline.

Albin Pump ALP low pressure range of peristaltic hose pumps

22 January 2010

Designed and manufactured for industrial use and advanced elastomeric technology, the ALP low pressure range of peristalitic hose pumps from Albin Pump have no seals, valves, diaphragms, glands or immersed rotors to leak, clog or replace

The ALP range is suitable for abrasive, corrosive and aggressive liquids, offering a range of low pressure hose pumps with models from ALP09 to ALH 45, flow rates up to 10 m³/h and pressures up to 4 bar. The ALP low pressure range of peristaltic hose pumps can self-prime up to 9.8 metres and run dry indefinitely with an accuracy up to ±0.5% across their total speed range.

Features of the ALP pump range from Albin Pump include accurate and repeatable dosing and metering, long life and greater reliability, self-priming, continuous dry running, lowest cost of ownership and quick and easy maintenance.
