• The impact of the US Energy Policy Act on the pumps industry
  While the US Energy Policy Act of 2005 focused mainly on alternative energy sources, reducing dependence on foreign sources of oil and increasing domestic energy production, its emphasis on energy efficiency has had a direct effect on pump users and manufacturers. Recent legislation is now making the route of no-action impossible.   The Motor Driven Systems Conference, which takes place from 9-10 November 2011, in Solihull, UK, has attracted the support of seven new industry event partners.
• Turning tallow oil into biodiesel fuel
  Faced with mounting fuel costs, one man and his wife decided to set up a biodiesel plant in their garage. From these small beginnings grew a fully fledged production facility. To ensure a smooth operation, Blackmer ProVane Pumps were chosen for their methanol recovery, high-speed truck loading and transfer rate applications.
• Retrofitting variable speed drives in a zoo
  A UK zoo required a systems upgrade to comply with EMC directives and standards whilst simultaneously increasing efficiency. Three animal enclosures were retrofitted with variable speed drives from Danfoss which improved animal welfare and reduced running costs.
