  • Tiny pumps drive portable medical devices
The performance and cost effectiveness of many portable medical devices can be enhanced by tailoring miniature diaphragm pumps and solenoid valves to meet system requirements. Dan Schimelman of Hargraves Technology examines the issues together with recent advances in fluidic components.

Dieter Klefoth and Stefan Seemer look at a demand-based speed-controlled pump system. This, with new submersible pumps together with state-of-the-art control systems, has been instrumental in lowering the power consumption and raising the reliability and quality of a copper wire manufacturing process in Germany.

  • Energy savings for hydraulic systems
A European steel manufacturer wanted to see how significant energy savings could be achieved in its hydraulic systems. Tests were carried out to establish if a drive would be a viable option for controlling energy consumption. When an ABB industrial drive was installed on a hydraulic pump, a 70% energy saving was successfully reached.
  • Submerged vertical safety concept
The damaged pipe at a Swedish unloading terminal led to the creation of a special design for molten sulphur tanks. This required a 17 m long vertical pump that had to be lowered in from the top to avoid tapping the tank at the bottom. VDMA's Stephan Näckel and Per Karlsson describe this technical development.

Bürkert Fluid Control Systems introduce 2/2 and 3/2 versions of solenoid valve

26 February 2010

Bürkert Fluid Control System's Flipper 6650 solenoid valve is available in a 2/2 and 3/2 way version with a pitch of 4.5 mm.

As well as a 2/2 way version with a nominal diameter of 0.4 mm, the Flipper solenoid valve is also available as a universal 3/2 way version with a nominal diameter of 0.8 mm.

The Flipper solenoid valve uses an elastomer element which in the 3/2 way valve moves between two opposing valve seats, opening one and closing the other. The common connection can be used as an inlet for distribution to one of the two seats or as an outlet for a mixer function.
The Flipper solenoid valves from Bürkert Fluid Control Systems are suitable for the dosing of aggressive fluids in clinical chemistry, medical technology, the analysis of environmental parameters and also in industrial micro-dosing technology.
