  • Submerged vertical safety concept
The damaged pipe at a Swedish unloading terminal led to the creation of a special design for molten sulphur tanks. This required a 17 m long vertical pump that had to be lowered in from the top to avoid tapping the tank at the bottom. VDMA's Stephan Näckel and Per Karlsson describe this technical development.

Titan Enterprises to launch ultrasonic flowmeter for small bore flow metering

04 March 2010

Developed with Cranfield University, the Atrato ultrasonic flowmeter is capable of monitoring flow over a range of 200:1 and has an accuracy of more than +1.5%

The Atrato ultrasound flowmeter from Titan uses the‘time of flight’ measurement system. A signal is passed along the pipe with the flow and back up the pipe against the flow, with the difference in these signals producing the flow rate.

Applications for the Atrato industrial engineering, plant operators, medical equipment supply, drink dispensing, and laboratory technicians.

Professor Mike Sanderson, Emeritus Professor of Fluid Instrumentation, Cranfield University said: “The Atrato’s unique clean bore construction makes it ideal for hygienic applications. The use of low frequency ultrasound and advanced signal processing to interrogate the flow ensures that the flowmeter provides high accuracy over a wide turndown range. In addition the technology developed for the Atrato has the flexibility to provide the basis of a family of flowmeters suitable for an even wider range of flows and applications.”
