Climate change, increasing demands on water due to global urbanization and the legal obligations under the EUs Water Framework Directive are making the water sector an attractive place for technologies that can help reduce costs and contribute to reducing the effects of climate change. • Control strategies bring cost benefits
The terms of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, coupled with rising energy costs, has led to a radical rethinking about how pumping efficiencies can be improved using control strategies. Pump control specialist Retroflo has responded with a ‘breakthrough' system-wide pump control technology, as company founder and operations director Andy Laundon explains.

Positive displacement pumps are still the preferred choice for metering highly corrosive and caustic chemicals. However, when it comes to reducing life-cycle costs, Chuck Treutel, P. SA peristaltic market shows growth

23 March 2009

The South African water industry is manifesting a growing demand for peristaltic dosing technology, according to Watson-Marlow Pumps Group, reflecting continued economic growth in that region.

“Companies that might, in the past, have installed progressive cavity, centrifugal and double diaphragm pumps are instead opting for peristaltic technology,” said Nico van Schalkwyk for Watson-Marlow Bredel SA. “The South African market is increasingly recognising that peristaltic pumps deliver unrivalled levels of accuracy, reliability and control, even when dosing corrosive chemicals like ferric chloride.”

Recently, South African water specialist Rand Water purchased 32 pumps from Watson-Marlow, with potential for at least another 50 pumps to be ordered in the next two years. In addition, the company is also expecting its first order for sixteen 620Bp Profibus enabled pumps.
