The American Water Works Association (AWWA)’s 2014 Conference and Exposition took place in Boston, USA from 8 to 12 June.
The BMS range is suitable for high flow and pressure applications in industrial and wastewater systems. The product design is 75% lighter than its predecessor due to the removal of maintenance-heavy components, which also makes it easier to access vital parts.
It also features a permanent magnet motor which reportedly improves pump efficiency by up to 5%. The motor can reach speeds between 4,000 and 5,500 rotations per minute, controlled by a variable frequency drive that operates at the optimal duty point, improving energy-efficient operation.
Durable and reliable
“The BMS’s new features significantly reduce maintenance hassle and pump downtime,” claimed Harland Pond, business development director for Grundfos Industry. “It is built on the principles of durability and reliability, and has passed rigorous tests in a number of different environments.”
The new design also features direct spline coupling, which eliminates regular maintenance of the V-belt drive and oil system, critical components made of super duplex stainless steel suitable for use in seawater and brackish water applications, a shaft seal made from carbon/silicon carbide, especially designed for high pressure, a thrust bearing material made of ceramic and carbon, pump bearings and seal rings made of nitrile rubber and a built-in thrust bearing that can absorb the axial thrust from the pump.
The BMS booster module is designed for reverse osmosis, filtration and ultrafiltration, pressure boosting, and water supply for industrial and municipal waste treatment systems.
