ABB has won the prestigious Supplier of the Year for the fourth time at this year’s Pump Industry Awards.

Backed by the British Pump Manufacturers’ Association (BPMA) and held in Warwick, UK on 27 March, the Supplier of the Year award recognises ABB as a “supplier to the pump industry that has demonstrated consistently high levels of technical innovation and developments, environmental awareness, customer service and satisfaction, market penetration and growth.”

Ian Allan, Local Business Unit Manager - Motors & Generators, collected the award on behalf of ABB: “Winning this prestigious award for the fourth time is great news for ABB, our Authorised Value Provider network but most importantly for our customers. I believe it reflects our continuous investment in all aspects of the pump industry: from the broadest range of electric motors and variable-speed drives of any manufacturer to the biggest stock availability thanks to our distribution centre in Germany and the stock held locally by our vast network of Authorised Value Providers. We have also moved up several gears in providing a comprehensive range of life cycle services that cover all aspects of our drives and motors, from the moment of purchase right through to replacement and recycling.”

As well as the Supplier of the Year award, ABB was also a finalist in two other award categories, Technical Innovation of the Year - Projects and Environmental Contribution of the Year.

The Technical Innovation award is given for the most innovative pump project, installation or service introduced onto the market within the last 12 months. ABB’s entry was a project for end user Yorkshire Water at its Blackburn Meadows wastewater treatment works, near Sheffield. The project used a new type of medium voltage drive to take advantage of an innovative direct-to-line, active front end design, eliminating the need for an input isolation transformer and saving cost and floor space.

ABB’s entry in the Environmental Contribution of the Year category was also for Yorkshire Water. The utility is saving over £61,000 on energy costs following the installation of ABB variable-speed drives on its re-circulation pumps at its wastewater treatment plant in Bradford.
