The BPMA says it has major concerns regarding pumps that do not meet the demands of the EU Energy Related Products Directive (ErP) entering the UK from other countries, especially Asia. Supported by CEOs from its member companies, the BPMA met with the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) this summer in an attempt to put additional pressure on the NMRO to take action.
Today however, the BPMA reports that the situation remains unchanged, with no specific plan to remove illegal products from the market, as there would appear to be no cohesive methodology to clearly identify rogue imports.
There are many concerns regarding these non-compliant products being available on the UK market, the BPMA continues, as they have the capacity to cost bona fide companies millions of pounds in lost revenue, placing jobs and hard-earned reputations at risk. Without proper testing these pumps could also present a health and safety risk.
The BPMA says it will be going back to Government Ministers and MPs to engage them in this debate, which it initially raised with them some 18 months ago.
