Kurume City is the third most populated city in Fukuoka Prefecture. As the climate continues to change, the area has grown more prone to the risk of flooding due to heavy rainfall. The role of the facility in draining rainwater into the Chikugo River, a Class A river system, has become increasingly important.

With the installation of this large standby pump (1650 Model VZGE), the drainage capacity of the facility has increased approximately 1.2 fold, reaching 34 tons per second.
