The owner had originally looked at purchasing six new pumps but Power Zone Equipment’s engineers determined that by increasing the motor horsepower and adding a sixth impeller to a number of the previously de-staged units, the existing pumps would meet their new service conditions.
Power Zone Equipment says that by rebuilding the pumps rather than replacing them, the client saved approximately half of the original equipment budget and completed the project in less than half the lead time of new OEM pumps.
As well as rebuilding the existing pumps, Power Zone Equipment supplied new 900 hp, 2300 volt motors and variably frequency drives.
Power Zone Equipment coordinated the removal of the pumps, the rebuilding and the reinstallation at three separate pump station sites. Two of the pumps were packaged on custom designed fabricated steel bases with their associated new motors. New dual mechanical seals were custom designed for the high pressure NGL service, including custom Plan 76 leak detection systems mounted to a stainless steel shaded structure.
After finishing these stations, Power Zone Equipment began work on two additional pump systems intended for installation next year in this same pipeline system.
