The order includes the installation of four Francis turbines with an output of 530 MW each, an additional Francis turbine with an output of 52 MW, generators, control and auxiliary systems and a customized training concept.
The Caculo Cabaça hydropower plant, on the Kwanza River around 250 km southeast of Angola’s capital Luanda, is set to be connected to the grid before the end of the decade with a total capacity of 2,172 MW. The pilot tests have been recently completed.
When the power plant is commissioned, around two-thirds of Angolan energy will come from hydropower.
