World Pumps January/February issue – online now

In the January/February 2023 issue of World Pumps magazine, we put a spotlight on condition monitoring, data centre cooling and fatbergs.

Condition-based monitoring of pumps is a critical process to ensure equipment is achieving optimum performance avoiding disruptive and expensive downtime. Our cover story examines how it is allowing operators to gain maximum efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness.

Our everyday lives are now dependent on the internet with cloud computing and online shopping growing inexorably. All of it requires processing in a spiralling number of global data centres and the unwanted by-product is heat. In Keeping it cool in a data-driven world, we look at the role of pumps in data centre cooling.

Fatbergs are a big, expensive problem for water companies. From innovative technologies to efforts to improve public understanding, we consider how industry players around the world are collectively working to combat the growing problem.

When a non-US company is buying a US pump company, the proposed acquisition may need to be reviewed by the US Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). Eric McClafferty and Wyatt Mince from the international law firm Kelley Drye & Warren LLP walk us through the process.

We also have a Q&A with Michael Michaud, executive director of North America’s Hydraulic Institute (HI), who talks about standards, training, energy efficiency, the challenge of recruiting technical talent, and the importance of pumps.
