The Motor Driven Systems (MDS) Conference visited South east England last Week in the fourth of five UK dates configured to help UK industry generate huge financial savings from its motor driven systems.
Hosted at the UK headquarters of Mitsubishi Electric in Hatfield,presentations from ESTA, GAMBICA ABB, IHS Research, Eriks, Xylem and WEG Electric Motors, among others, contributed to a lively debate on how to reduce energy and make potential savings a reality.
Matt Handley, product manager - drive systems and LVS at Mitsubishi Electric, said: "The core information presented by the MDS events strongly reverberates with our own 'energy efficiency' discourse. This also gave us the opportunity to showcase our own extensive range of energy saving technologies across the range of businesses.
We very much look forward to the final event in Bristol this week and to continuing our efforts in encouraging UK industry to become more energy efficient by looking in the right areas.”
The event was very well received by another engaged audience, who were pleased to have attended. Jonathan Rooney, Maintenance Coordinator at Vauxhall Motors Manufacturing in Luton, stated, “There were a couple of key points that resonated with me. Firstly, the importance of educating our work force in energy efficiency and what impact energy saving will have on us as a company. Secondly, I particularly enjoyed the messages in Mike Malina’s paper. He made a really good point that many companies look to renewables as a quick fix to save energy, however they hadn’t exhausted the opportunities to save energy using the more conventional methods like using VSD’s or even turning off the lights. This is an approach that I will most definitely continue to pursue”.
Another delegate, Stephen Reeson, who attended the event in his capacity as Head of Climate Change and Energy Policy at the Food and Drink Federation said: "The event ticked a number of boxes for me, including the provision of some excellent orientation in relation to the key issues surrounding improved efficiency within motor driven apparatus. The food and drink industry is a big user of this type of equipment, with a significant installed base of pumps, compressors and fans. As such, it is keen to explore all energy reduction methods and events such as this are key to a better understanding of what can be achieved”.
