FLSmidth is strengthening its presence in Africa with the opening of a new office in Accra, Ghana.
The new Accra office will provide a hub for FLSmidth’s regional operations. The Danish company, which supplies equipment and services to the global cement and minerals industries, already has a large installed base not only in Ghana but also in neighbouring countries including Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea.
“We have done business for many decades in West Africa and have a wide network of distributors and agents,” explained Deon de Kock, vice president, FLSmidth Sub-Saharan Africa. “Ghana is West Africa’s biggest and fastest growing economy with a diverse and rich resource base. There are positive signs of recovery in the minerals sector in West Africa, especially in the gold mining segment. We want to build our own in-house resources in this region, and fine tune our service and support activities to add more value to our customers’ operations,” added De Kock.
The Accra office, which will also host customer training, will be staffed by Ghanaian employees. “We believe that local skills, experience and expertise are vital to ensure a good understanding of customers and local conditions, and to provide optimal service levels,” said De Kock.
Joseph Appiah Kubi will serve as general manager of the new Ghanaian office.
