Hyperion Materials & Technologies, a US-based advanced materials manufacturer, has created a new high-performance tungsten carbide grade called DZ07 for the oil and gas industry.

The company developed DZ07 because their customers wanted a better balance of mechanical properties without compromising corrosion resistance. Ram Raghavan, business development leader of Hyperion’s Oil & Gas business, said: “DZ07 grade was tested in severe accelerated conditions, and it outperformed the incumbent grades.”

Oil and gas producers are focusing on boosting efficiency and performance and so are collaborating with advanced materials providers to improve exploration and production equipment. Prasad K.V.D., product manager of Mining, Oil & Gas at Hyperion, said: “As the service providers try to drill wells faster and pump fluids at higher pressures, we partner with them to develop a wide range of high-performance components and sub-assemblies that solve these challenges in drilling, well completion and flow control.”

Hyperion will be showcasing its products for the oil & gas industry, including two new tungsten carbide grades, DZ07 and the CR9C, at SPE Offshore Europe 2019 in Aberdeen, Scotland from 3-6 September.
