Load shifting aids energy saving: part 2

A South African initiative to encourage load shifting prompted an in-depth review of pumping processes at the Tugela paper mill’s water supply plant. After a general overview of the project, the first part of this two-handed case study1 focused on the plant’s high-lift pumping station. In this concluding part, Graeme Harding from the Magnet Engineering Division considers flow control, and assesses the transfer and low-lift pumping stages, and plant piping and instrumentation, before presenting the final solution.
