Black & Veatch to upgrade two Thames Water treatment facilities

As principal contractor, Black & Veatch will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the upgraded works which will convert liquid treated waste into a sludge cake.

The upgrades at each site include sludge belt presses, sludge cake conveyors, a polymer dosing system, a 2000 m2 sludge storage building, a sludge storage tank, pumps and pipework, and return liquors tank, pumps and pipework.

Lawrence Gosden, Thames Water’s head of capital delivery, said: “This essential work will help us maintain high performance at the plant, comply with new European regulations and reduce our impact on the environment by substantially reducing lorry movements to and from the site.

The upgrades are part of Thames Water’s £5 billion programme of essential works to improve water pipes, sewers and other facilities across London and the Thames Valley between 2010 and 2015.
