Established in 1964, and owned by the Plaza family, Bombas Leão supplies groundwater pumps that are used mainly in agriculture, industrial and municipal applications. Bombas Leão has manufacturing facilities in Monte Azul Paulista and Teresina and a distribution facility in Recife. In 2013 Bombas Leão had net revenues of approximately US$30 million.
The Franklin brand was originally established in Brazil through pump companies importing its submersible motors. In 2008, Franklin Electric acquired Brazil’s Motobombas Schneider, a residential pumping systems company with an extensive distribution network. Since the acquisition, Franklin (Schneider) Motobombas’ sales have doubled, and a new factory and training centre are opening this month to support the continued growth of this business.
“We have maintained contact with the Plaza family over the years and are pleased with their decision to sell their company to Franklin Electric,” said Franklin Electric chief executive officer Gregg Sengstack. “The Bombas Leão acquisition will provide additional submersible pump products, extending the Franklin Electric product offering, expand our distribution reach and further position Franklin Electric as a market leader in groundwater pumping equipment in Latin America.”
