Further reports from the Women’s Engineering Society suggest that only 6% of the engineering workforce in the UK is female. Busch (UK) Ltd are working hard to address this trend and are committed to providing diverse and genuine opportunities for young people in the local area who are passionate about working within the engineering sector, regardless of gender.
Busch (UK) Ltd have been providing advanced engineering apprenticeships at their site in Hortonwood, Telford for over two years and have recently had two of their apprentices start their final year. Today, two new apprentices started their careers at Busch (UK) Ltd including their first female apprentice Danielle Hadley from Trench.
“I have always been interested in how things work; I was forever taking things apart and putting them back together again. When I told everyone I wanted to become an engineer people told me I couldn’t because I’m a girl. This made me more driven and focused to achieve my goals. Now I have been given this opportunity, I am determined to prove myself as a key part of the team and to learn as much as I can.”
Josh Pykett, also starting his apprenticeship at Busch (UK) Ltd added, “I think apprenticeships are so valuable and give young people the opportunity to earn whilst also developing their skills. I have also always been interested in engineering and I didn’t want to go to six-form like everyone else. I’m really excited to be starting my career at Busch!”
