The BPMA is pressing the National Measurement Regulatory Office (NMRO), as UK Market Surveillance Authority, to ensure that any illegal pumps are removed from the market, and all future imports are curtailed with immediate effect.
On 7 December last year, BPMA representatives again met with NMRO Executives in London and the NMRO confirmed that several ‘suspect’ circulator pumps had now been purchased in order to be tested. The results of the testing were initially due to be published early in 2017 but it now looks this will happen in May 2017. One of the key concerns of the BPMA is that, with Brexit on the horizon, the UK could become the dumping ground for cheap, non-compliant and potentially dangerous pumps.
Following this meeting, a full written appraisal was sent to Mark Prisk MP, who has in turn communicated this issue directly to The Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. The BPMA will shortly be following up on this communication to the Secretary of State.
In the meantime, the BPMA has askd that anyone who comes across any pump product they believe is in breach of the ErP Directive should contact the BPMA with details.
