The trade-off between a cartridge split design and field repair capabilities made with most cartridge split seals does not apply to the 442C Cartridge Split Seal. Its design simplifies split seal repair by using a standard spare parts kit, enabling users to lower inventory costs, enhance operation flexibility and speed up equipment turnaround.

The 442C uses an interlocking face design (patent pending) with a unique holder that self-aligns the face halves in the rotating assembly. This ensures proper face alignment which critical to sealing success. Springs energize after installation, allowing for maximum space between seal faces during installation, simplifying seal installation.

With only two seal components, the 442C cartridge split seal is easy to install, offers installation flexibility and is engineered to enhance sealing reliability like no other cartridge split seal, says Chesterton.  The seals have sealed pumps and other rotating equipment with shaft sizes ranging from 1 in (25 mm) to 30 in (760 mm).
