Vacon improves drive range

Improvements include the adoption of conformal coating for control boards, make the new drives better able to withstand the effects of prolonged operation in tough environmental conditions.

As well as the new protective coating, the NXP control board has also been completely redesigned, with critical components improved to optimise temperature stability, and with a new processor that offers a 15% performance hike compared with its predecessor. This is a particular benefit for OEM customers who develop their own application software for the drives.

Other improvements include the use of varnished cards and option boards in all power modules rated at 72 A and above, and redesigned cooling channels to ensure optimal cooling and experience-based optimisation of protection limits.

For air-cooled drives in the range there is a new fan assembly, which is 50% more efficient than its predecessor. Water-cooled drives in the range are now optionally available with an integrated brake chopper, which provides more space savings when using these already compact units.

Vacon NXP premium drives are available in air-cooled versions with ratings from 0.75 kW to 3.25 MW and in liquid-cooled versions with ratings from 5.5 kW to 5.3 MW. All of the improved models have been extensively evaluated using the HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) testing regime to ensure that the performance objectives for the improvements are fully and consistently achieved in real-world applications.
