The order is for 12 KSB pump sets which will be used in the oil sands mine’s process water recycling system.

The KSB RDLO pumps selected for the Fort Hills project are a double-volute design and will be built to deliver flows between 4250 and 6125 cubic metres of water per hour, at heads of up to 128 metres. Four of the pumps will be rated for temperatures up to 95°C.

Pumps and motors will be mounted on API 610 standard baseplates.

Full instrumentation, including temperature and vibration sensors, will be installed in Canada by KSB Pumps.

“Winning this order in strong competition was a team effort involving sales and engineering staff here and in KSB’s headquarters in Germany,” said Mike Blundell, president of KSB Pumps Inc.

KSB subsidiary GIW Industries operates a major service centre in Fort McMurray which is currently being expanded.

Fort Hills Energy LP is a consortium of Suncor Energy, Total E&P Canada and Teck Resources Ltd.
