The Commission will work over the next year to articulate and quantify the economic case for businesses to engage in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Nipper is the Commission’s only representative of Danish business.
Danish foreign minister Kristian Jensen said: “Mads Nipper and the global commission is a perfect match. Grundfos is one of Denmark’s large, international companies, which is in front when it comes to creating sustainable solutions for global challenges, and which already contributes and puts action behind the UN’s 17 Global Goals of economic, social and sustainable development. That is a good starting point for taking up work in the commission, which the Danish government has pushed to establish, and which we support financially. It is about turning the 17 Global Goals into business opportunities. About investing in growth and developing countries. And about developing new business models, which joins profitability and social considerations.”
Nipper will be joined by around 25 leaders from businesses and organisations, including Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever; Mo Ibrahim, founder of Celtel; Bob Collymore, managing director of Safaricom; Lise Kingo, director of the UN’s Global Compact; and Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, former deputy secretary general of the UN.
