Franklin Electric announces recall of motor controllers for submersible pumps

The recall involves the Pumptec electronic motor controller for 115v/230v submersible motors rated 1/3 to 1½ HP Model No. 5800020600 with date codes of 06F45 through 09L45. The model number and date code can be found on the nameplate label located on the right-hand side of the enclosure.

Consumers should stop using the recalled Pumptec products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

While there have been no reported incidents or injuries, the product label can lose adhesion, exposing the circuitry which could pose a shock hazard. Consumers are advised not to touch areas of the units that are exposed due to label curling or peeling, and should immediately contact their dealer for a free replacement of the cover.

The Franklin Electric recall affects about 38 000 Pumptec units that were manufactured by Franklin Electric in the United States and sold at dealers nationwide from June 2006 until November 2009 for about US$245.
