Pumps and systems now Building Information Modelling-ready

With the ISH 2023 trade fair underway in Frankfurt, Germany from 13–17 March, the VDMA Pumps + Systems reminds us that pumps for building technology are now digitally described, available as a data model and meet the requirements of Building Information Modelling (BIM) - a planning tool for large-scale real estate projects.

The prerequisite for this was the final report and the integration of the I4.0 submodels into the buildingSmart Data Dictionary (bSDD). The I4.0 submodels essential for these devices are now not only described in the so-called management shell, but also semantically mapped in OPC-UA (2019) and bSBB (2022).

“We would like to thank the member companies Grundfos, KSB, Wilo and Xylem, whose commitment made this BIM sub-model for pumps in building services possible,” said Christoph Singrün, managing director of VDMA Pumps + Systems. “We see the entire 4.0 project as an investment in the future, which is now looking forward to its real implementation.”

The work, which began in 2006 together with the Chair of Process Control Engineering at RWTH Aachen University (PLT, Prof Ulrich Epple) as a general device profile for pumps and vacuum pumps with the description of operation, was successfully implemented and expanded into the Industry 4.0 environment under the leadership of the Institute for Technical Building Equipment (TGA, Prof Jochen Müller).
