Torishima pumps selected for Saskatoon power station

Alberici, in a joint venture with Burns & McDonnell, is providing engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm) services for SaskPower at the Saskatoon power station.

The project involves the conversion of three of the plant’s existing gas turbine generators into a combined cycle operation, a process that greatly reduces plant emissions by using waste heat to generate electricity rather than venting it into the atmosphere. Major equipment additions include three natural gas turbine generators, one steam turbine, six once-through steam generators, and two step-up transformers.

When completed in 2015, the new units will emit half the carbon dioxide of coal-fired generators and add an additional 200 MW of net electrical production.
