The Rodund II hydro power plant in the Austrian Montafon area was damaged during a fire in the summer of 2009. The refurbishment from Voith Hydro will increase the plant’s output from 276 to 295 MW. The old unit had been in operation since 1976 - only the power house, the spiral case as well as the draft tube and some mechanical auxiliary equipment, will remain in place.
Dr Leopold Heninger, CEO of Voith Hydro’s Austrian Operating Unit said: “The pump turbine for Rodund II is characterized by its quick start-up, short response times and its high efficiency. It will play an important role for grid stabilization. We have a special challenge in this project: With the commissioning of the unit by the end of 2011, we have to deal with a very short delivery time. But I am sure we will master this tight schedule very well.”
