NETE, which was founded in 1953 to test steam turbines, pumps and valves, and support the introduction of the new St Laurent class of ships, is the Department of National Defence’s (DND’s) principal naval test and evaluation centre. Weir has been involved in the management and operation of NETE since its foundation.

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), on behalf of the DND, has awarded a C$560-million contract to Weir Canada to manage the NETE for a five-year period, beginning in April 2024, with options to extend for an additional 15 years.

“Our dedicated team in Canada is pleased to continue its longstanding relationship providing engineering testing, verification and evaluation services to the members of the Royal Canadian Navy,” said Joel Parent, general manager, Weir Canada Inc.
