The 680 sq m facility was built around 18 months ago to supply water pumps and pump systems for the local market as well as other South-East Asian markets, including Australia and New Zealand.
Wilo Malaysia’s plant is Wilo Group’s first assembly platform in Southeast Asia. It is equipped with an in-house test bench for end suction pumps, vertical in line multistage pumps, pressure boosting systems, fire extinguishing systems, and axially split case pumps.
“We have chosen Malaysia as the headquarters for Wilo Southeast Asia because the country is conveniently and strategically located within the Southeast Asia region; it has great infrastructure with attractive shipping routes; ease of doing both local and international business,” said Jens Dallendorfer, Senior Vice-President Sales Region Emerging Markets, Wilo Group.
Dallendorfer says that about 20–30% of products manufactured will be exported within the Southeast Asia region, with the rest serving domestic needs. Currently, all raw material and pump components come from Wilo’s factories in China and India, with the accessories and base plates locally sourced or manufactured.
“Over the short-term, our business plans will see the localization of three to six major group products being manufactured from this platform,” added Dallendoerfer. “And in the long-term, we would see this assembly plant being located into a full-blown and smart manufacturing facility, similar to all our plants located in Dortmund, Germany, China, South Korea and India.”
Wilo established a Malaysian office in 2011 to provide trading, and customer service support, and training through its distributors.
“We are actively committed to treating our environment and its vital resources responsibly to ensure that future generations can live in peace and security,” said Vignesh Nathan, managing director of Wilo Malaysia and group director of Wilo Southeast Asia. “In so doing, we are driven by one vision: to give as many people as possible access to clean water. With intelligent, efficient, and sustainable solutions, we make water move – just as we have always done; and will continue to do so in the future.”
