Xylem, which was recently spun off from ITT Corp, began trading on the NYSE on 1 November 2011 under the symbol “XYL”. The Xylem portfolio includes Bell and Gossett, Flojet, Flygt, Godwin, Goulds Water Technologies, WTW and YSI.
To help celebrate the Xylem launch, Xylem Watermark, the company's corporate citizenship and social investment program, partnered with Planet Water Foundation to install two water towers in Madhugiri, in the Tumkur district of the Indian state of Karnataka.
More than 20 Xylem employees in India helped to construct the towers, which each provide 10 000 litres of clean, filtered water per day. One tower, installed at Mount View Public School in Madhugiri, will provide water to a village population of 36 000, while the second tower, installed at another school in the village of Dodderi, will benefit 2700 people.
