Initially, two PL200 Börger pumps were installed to handle 30 m³/h of 6% digested sludge. These pumps proved so successful that the purchase was followed by two 15 kW CL520 Börger mixer pumps to process 100 m³/h of thick sludge. The clamp-press application at Caister was then also switched over to Börger when a pair of 11 kW PL200 feed pumps and a pair of PL200 cake discharge pumps (handling 25% DS Sludge) were introduced. These 7.5 kW units replaced problematical 22.5 kW progressive cavity pumps that kept blocking and breaking down. A mobile unit to assist with cumbersome tank clearing has also since been added, bringing the total number of Börger pumps at the Norfolk site to eleven.
Steve Underdown, Project Engineer, at Anglian Water said: “We’ve gradually phased in the Börger pumps and they’ve proved they can handle a comprehensive range of sludge applications with ease.”
