A small, specialist cheese producer in Cornwall is using a MasoSine Certa pump from the Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG), which has helped Padstow Cheese to increase both its output and the quality of its product.
When the company decided to expand its operations in 2019, it was using a centrifugal pump, which created a lot of foam and air bubbles, both detrimental to cheese quality. The pump also damaged the curd with its chopping action.
When the company introduced a prepress to its operations, it realised that a better pump was needed. Owner, Lawrence Reynolds said: “We needed a better pump, not just to pump the milk into the curdling tank, but to transfer the curd from the vat to the prepress.”
WMFTG supplied a MasoSine Certa 200 with samples of 2 in diameter Aflex FaBLINE hose, initially on loan. Soon afterwards, the company placed an order as it found that the product transfer was very gentle and there was far less aeration. In addition, by pumping through the hose, the curd can be spread evenly as it fills up the prepress.
