The specialists from Grovetown in Georgia, USA, have developed this type series especially for the extreme conditions encountered in hard rock mining in mill circuits. The new MDX-850 raises the bar of the production level while keeping the overall operating costs, i.e. the total cost of ownership, down. The impeller diameter measures 2,600 mm (102"), exceeding that of the previously largest MDX pump by 250 mm (10").
The design features of MDX-850 include a number of enhancements that have been made to the MDX type series over the last few years. The pump width, for instance, has been enlarged to allow for improved diverter design. The impeller, too, has been reinforced in areas prone to wear. Thicker impeller vanes, cast from Gasite 28G and Endurasite, improve wear resistance and extend the life cycle of the pumps. MDX-850 is characterised by its enhanced interface between suction liner and suction plate, enabling the use of an innovatively designed wear ring at the pump inlet.
Like all MDX pumps, size 850 comes with an adjustable suction liner to allow adjustments of the clearance between the impeller nose and suction liner from the suction side of the pump even when the pump is operating. The MDX-850 design is compatible with the GIW RAMSL (Remotely Adjusted Mechanical Suction Liner) technology upgrade that makes adjustment of the clearance between the impeller nose and suction liner fast and precise.
