The firm is one of four finalists in the municipal water category of the Innovate@IWS competition for its Flygt SmartRun intelligent pump controller.
Innovate@IWS is a new initiative designed to find and accelerate next-generation technologies that address water sustainability challenges in arid regions.
The winners must demonstrate excellence in terms of uniqueness, business potential and long-term vision.
Xylem’s Flygt SmartRun intelligent pump controller is designed to reduce a pump station’s energy usage by up to 30% when compared to a conventional on/off control.
The company says it reacts to find the most energy-efficient pump speed for a specific application and also features an automatic blockage removal function.
“We are honored that Flygt SmartRun’s innovative capabilities have been recognized at IWS,” said senior vice president Tomas Brannemo.
As part of the competition developers pitch their innovations to an expert panel of judges including investors, regulators, utility managers, industrial water users and technical experts from around the world.
